DescriptionLetter sent by Judge Thomas White to his wife Catherine White from Harrisburg on January 12, 1864. Judge White has just arrived in Harrisburg. Some of the Judge's acquaintances have recently returned from Washington DC. They went to petition President Lincoln to override the decision of the Secretary of War. The Secretary of War was not giving White and his partners permission to attempt to trade Confederate Brigadier General Trimble for the Judge's imprisoned son Harry. White writes to his wife that even though this is good news, he is not confident that Harry will be freed. He will be away from home until the matter is resolved.
