| Description | John F. Piper, Jr., Dean of Lycoming College, role plays Benjamin Crever. Crever is credited with the founding of the College's predecessor institution, Williamsport Academy, later Williamsport Dickinson Seminary. Dr. Piper acted as Benjamin Crever on Benjamin Crever Day, and, in this photo, at Freshman Orientation. Dr Piper began his career at Lycoming College in 1969 as an assistant professor in the History Department. He earned Bachelor of Arts degree from Lafayette College, Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Yale Divinity School, and Doctorate from Duke University. Prior to coming to Lycoming College, he taught for five years at Mount Holyoke College. He was promoted to an associate professor in 1974, to a full professor in 1984, and named Dean of the College in 1993. Lycoming College President James E. Douthat is the institution's fourteenth president. President Douthat came to the College in 1989 from Albion College in Michigan, where he served as executive vice president. He earned a bachelor's degree from the College of Williams and Mary, a Master of Divinity degree from the Divinity School, Duke University, and a doctorate in higher education administration from Duke University. |
